Marketing Restaurants in 2023

Victoria Harris • 11 August 2023

As Hospitality navigates a tricky time, how can we best market restaurants?

Marketing for restaurants is essential to attract customers, create a strong brand presence, and foster customer loyalty. Here are some effective marketing strategies specifically tailored for restaurants:

Social Media Presence: Establish a strong presence on social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and TikTok. Share high-quality photos and videos of your dishes, behind-the-scenes moments, and special events. Engage with your audience by responding to comments and messages promptly.

Visual Content: Invest in professional food photography and videography. High-quality visuals can make your dishes look even more enticing and shareable on social media and your website.

User-Generated Content: Encourage customers to share their dining experiences by posting photos and reviews. Feature user-generated content on your social media accounts or website to build authenticity and trust.

Online Ordering and Delivery: In the era of online convenience, having an easy-to-use online ordering system and offering delivery services can attract a wider customer base.

Local SEO: Optimize your restaurant's website for local search engine optimization (SEO). This involves using relevant keywords, claiming your Google My Business listing, and getting positive reviews to improve local search visibility.

Loyalty Programs: Implement a loyalty program to reward repeat customers. This can be in the form of discounts, free items, or exclusive offers.

Email Marketing: Collect customer email addresses and send out regular newsletters with updates about special promotions, new menu items, and upcoming events.

Influencer Collaborations: Partner with local influencers or food bloggers who can visit your restaurant, try your dishes, and share their experiences with their followers.

Event Hosting: Host events like themed nights, cooking classes, or live music performances to create a unique dining experience that attracts both regulars and new customers.

Engage the Community: Participate in local events and festivals to increase your restaurant's visibility within the community. Being an integral part of your community will enable your customer base to see you as personable and more human.

Mobile-Friendly Website: Ensure your restaurant's website is mobile-friendly and includes essential information like menus, opening hours, location, and contact details.

Online Reviews and Reputation Management: Monitor online reviews on platforms like Yelp, TripAdvisor, and Google. Respond promptly to both positive and negative reviews to show that you value customer feedback. You may think these sites don't matter and it's where customers go to moan...they do matter! It's where people are searching for their dinner spot.

Seasonal and Limited-Time Offers: Create excitement by offering seasonal dishes or limited-time promotions. This can encourage customers to visit your restaurant to try something new.

Social Media Advertising: Utilize targeted social media advertising to reach specific demographics in your area. Platforms like Facebook and Instagram allow you to customize your audience based on location, interests, and more. This can be particularly useful if you have a particular night/event/quiet time to fill.

Remember that consistency is key in restaurant marketing. Keep your branding and messaging consistent across all channels, and continuously monitor the effectiveness of your strategies to adapt and improve over time.
